I have seen Black Taxi several times and let me tell you, you will definitely not be bored at this show! Black Taxi is one of NYC’s most prominent live acts, smashing an anything-goes punk ethos together with pop sensibilities, unparalleled energy, and brilliant songwriting. The result is a raucous stage show, heavy on harmonies, spitfire guitar licks, body paint, and all manner of instrumentation. Their style has been described varyingly as “grit-pop” or “dance punk”, and though their songs hint at the Talking Heads, Cake, and Daft Punk, they are driven by something entirely new and infectious. They joined us for our 5GB series before their show tonight at 529.
What’s the first gig you ever attended?
The fist gig I ever attended was Gordon Lightfoot. Now, this was not my choice… I went with my parents when I was 7 years old. I do remember falling asleep on my dad’s lap. The first gig I wanted to go to was the Guns N’ Roses and Metallica Tour. Best show ever!
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
It’s hard to say cause there are many shows that stick out. I loved playing in New Orleans, that city has heart and soul. Toronto, New York and LA feel like home town shows and we always have a blast. I also love the small cities like Boise and Kansas City. But if I had to chose a favorite, I would have to say Munich, Germany. We played this festival, and it was our first time in Germany. The crowd received us with open arms and lots of beer!
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
I saw HEALTH in Toronto a few years ago when they did a surprise performance for NXNE. They blew me away!
What is the gig you would most like to play?
I would love to play anywhere in Australia. When I was fresh out of High School, I back packed around Australia for 5 weeks and fell in love. My dream and goal has been to go back and tour. It would be a dream come true if the “Collide and Conquer” tour would make it out there next year.
What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
I would love to see Radiohead and MUSE on the same stage. I could die after that.
