On Feb. 25, 2011 Arkansas songwriter and “folk swamp soul brother,” Adam Faucett released his third solo LP, More Like A Temple and embarked on a US Tour which continues into 2012. Drawing comparisons from Townes Van Zandt to Tim Buckley to Otis Redding, Arkansas born and bred Adam Faucett is most known for his powerful, almost operatic voice and intricate finger-picking. The Arkansas native’s sound has been described by The Arkansas Times as “somewhere between Otis Redding’s soul shout and Cat Power’s swampy poeticism”.
A true road runner, Adam has been steady criss-crossing the country for five years in support of his two previous releases, 2007’s The Great Basking Shark and 2008’s Show Me Magic, Show Me Out, sharing the stage with Lucero, Calexico, The Legendary Shack Shakers, Vetiver, Chuck Ragan, Damien Jurado, Elf Power and Malcom Holcombe. Faucett’s newest release More Like A Temple pushes out in all directions, simultaneously more folk, more rock, more melodic, more soul, and more sinister than all of his previous work.
What’s the first gig you ever attended?
I’m pretty sure it was an elvis impersonator on a flatbed trailer in Fordyce, Arkansas. I just remember the drums being too loud For my tiny ears.
What is the best gig that you ever played/performed?
Man, we opened for the Meat Puppets!
What is the best gig you have ever seen?
I saw Sonic Youth in Memphis on their New York City Ghost and Flowers tour – twice. It changed my fragile mind.
What is the gig you would most like to play?
I want to play on the moon.
What would be the lineup for your dream gig?
Dream gig. Hhmm.. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club opens, then Neil Young does a set. Dinosaur Jr. comes out during Neil Young set, does Cortez. Karen Dalton’s ghost drives me home and is a good listener.
