It’s that time of year again! June 22 though 26, the 15th annual AthFest will be held in downtown Athens. Known as “one of the country’s great indie music festivals,” headlining artists this year will include Futurebirds, Centro-Matic , Guadacanal Diary, Chickasaw Mudd Puppies, Kevin Kinney Band, Nappy Roots, Col. Bruce Hampton and Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit. The ever-so-convenient “Club Crawl” takes place on Friday and Saturday night, and wristbands can be purchased in advance for $15 or $20 at the festival, and gives patrons access to: The 40 Watt Club, Caledonia Lounge, Farm 225, Flicker Theatre, The Globe, Go Bar, Little Kings Shuffle Club, The Melting Point, New Earth Music Hall, Rye Bar, Cine, and The Bad Manor. All venues are within blocks of each other, easy to walk to for even the drunkest of them all! Music includes most genres including favorites, Reptar, Washed Out, Modern Skirts, Five-Eight, The Orkids and Ken Will Morton. The local alt-weekly Flagpole Magazine holds its elegant Flagpole Athens Music Awards event at the historic Morton Theatre on Thursday, June 23.
Travel packages offer a variety of accommodations and include AthFest wristbands, AthFest 2011 compilation CDs, vouchers for T-shirts, and other cool AthFest gear delivered to your hotel.
